La franata dell'arcipelago

This tour takes place in the channel between Vulcano and Lipari.

Leaving from Lipari or from Vulcano we head towards the slopes of Vulcanello on the side of the channel. The starting point of the dive is easily spotted in front of two hotels few dozens of meters apart. We start descending in front of the bit of coast between the two hotels; the depth goes down gradually for several dozens of meters shaping a wide flat surface at a depth of three to ten metres. The surface is covered with small rocks alternating large meadows of posidonia.
Moving then straight towards Lipari we reach a quite steep drop.

The first ten to twenty meters feature a landslide of small stones. Once we reach a depth of 35 to 45 metres the cliffs increase in size making the depth particularly spectacular.

Capo Testa Grossa

Observing Testa Grossa from the sea, we notice that it is a solid headland that finishes in a wall that goes down into the sea with a north-south direction. The dive starts from the bay to the north of the headland, right next to the rock. In the bay the rock goes straight down forming a vertical face where we find sponge colonies.

If we carry on we come to the most interesting part of the dive. The rock face is full of nooks and crannies which go down to a depth of over 50 metres.

Scoglio del Quaglietto

This is one of the nicest dives that the island of Vulcano has to offer. The itinerary is various around the wall of the big rock to the inside of the grotto where there is a statue of the Madonna and a large quantity of shrimp. This diving point is perfect and very nice for underwater photographers because it’s possible to make beautiful pictures inside and outside the grotto.

La parete della Sirenetta

The dive takes place down a beautiful vertical rock face, the edge of which starts at 16 metres and goes down to a depth of 47 metres, and on a plateau with the edge of the rock face on one side, and the cliff face of the island on the other, near the rock called The Sirenetta.

Between the cliff face and the plateau are many sulphur fumaroles, which colour the surrounding sand yellow and red.

Capo Grillo

This dive takes place alongside an impressive volcano slope that reaches great depths.
The site is very interesting for photographers, offering them an infinite number of fantastic colourful macro opportunities.

The dive starts close to shore with the slope to our right. Right away, we meet groupers and octopus in their hotels. At a depth of 18 mt. there is a big grotto, where on entering we come across small red prawns that crawl across the rock face.

Proceeding along the slope, at the depth of 41 mt. there is a crack in the face that seems to be shrouded in a cloud of anthias, the inside of which is inhabited with a few mustela and a lot of prawn.
